This private residential project of approx 4000 sq. ft. carpet area in South Bengaluru is a perfect example for soulful homes on a typical tight knit urban plot measuring 1200 sft. It is a conflux of contemporary style with natural traditional materials. Recently handed over and designed by architect & interior designer Shilpa Sambargi of Bangalore, this is a perfect example  of crafting a home with a conscious narrative.

When the young couple client (Mr. Shyam and his spouse) approached the architect with their requirements, they were quite skeptical as they had elaborate and detailed requirements on the compact plot size of 1200 sft. He wanted a separate home for his sister at the ground level apart from the car parking space and a garden. As he lived with his aged parents he wanted a spacious four bedroom home.(One as his child’s bedroom, one for his parents , one for the couple and the other one for his guests).

This home is a three storey building with living and kitchen at the lower levels and the bedrooms in the upper level. The main residence at the first floor welcomes with a foyer is the transition space and  is consciously designed leading to a beautiful open living and a double height  dining. A warm material pallet like Kota stone, wood is used. The colour tones of the interiors are extremely pleasing and creates a humble warm space.

The living space has window seaters with yellow Jaisalmer marble on the seat where it complements the green kota flooring. The windows have huge glass openings on the northern and eastern side which brings sunlight light throughout the day. The staircase divides the space as foyer, dining and diagonally with the living.

The floating staircase is a style statement for the residence with a well-lit skylight on top. Structurally it is a  8mm perforated metal folded plate with textured Jaisalmer stone as treads of the stairs. It breaks the monotony and also brings in life to the entire residence. It connects the upper level kids room and the master bedroom acts a gateway to their private spaces.

The artworks and accessories on the wall are sourced locally sourced and hand picked with no huge price tag but sensible selections which proves the theory of No unnecessary spending but definitely sensible spending.
