This weekend home in Ahmedabad rejuvenates as much as it uplifts the spirits. Sunlit brunches and moonlit pool parties make this luxurious farmhouse a warm and welcoming space.
When team RA Designs first met Shahs to landscape their farmhouse and renovate the pool, one thing was clear; the hosts wanted their guests to keep coming back. Imagine a resort pool with ample space and nooks for guests to mingle, but only for a private party. That's how brainstorming for designing their outdoors began.
The farmhouse on the outskirts of Ahmedabad is surrounded by greenery and wilderness. While discussing the landscape, expansion and renovation of the swimming pool, the thought of a deck came up, followed by re-designing the interiors. And so began the work for two bedrooms, bathrooms, a living and a surprise verandah.
Shahs love to host and have frequent visitors on weekends. Designer chose the colour scheme of a chessboard for the area surrounding the pool to enhance the aqua-blue and lush greens. Black marble flooring, geometric white tables and monochrome outdoor sofas elevate the deck area. The pool has levels and underwater seats of varying heights for adults and children. Outdoor lighting is subtle yet intelligent as it adds warmth to an otherwise cool space and secures the sense of steps for people in high spirits. Sans wine and coffee station and palm trees complete the inviting vibe of the pool area.
But this vibe is not limit to the outdoors. Modern comfort with classic interior elements instantly relax and please you. Shah believes in rest as much as recreation. So beds had to be as cosy as aesthetic given that we spend 1/3rd of our lives sleeping. RA Designs team chose padded fabric headboards on which one can easily lean and read a book, watch TV or soak in the calming greens. The aqua marble wall behind the headrest looks regal, and the wood panels make a contemporary wall extension. Gold detailing gives an edge to the brown and blue theme, with a neutral couch to balance the hues. We extended a walk-in closet to a spacious bathroom, certain to make getting ready a re-energising experience with grey tiles, gold accessories and a bold portrait frame mirror.
The living area on the ground floor has a wooden dining table, a pink couch and a tropical wall overlooking the garden. The space is clutter-free, allowing free movement for huge gatherings. The richness of the decor is in synergy with the luxurious style of the client, but the minimalism of objects also achieves the purpose of space meant truly for hosting large gatherings.
The bedroom on the first floor has a white, grey and silver theme with a continued hint of blue, french windows and an L-shaped balcony. The copper bathtub, straight out of a Hollywood period drama, instantly grabbed our attention. While the window behind the tub gives a calming sense of green, the elegant copper mirror wall accentuated by black tiles in the bathroom gives you a glamorous look at... yourself!
The kids' room in candy pink and white is attached to the bedroom. It has unicorn and mermaid motiffs on the decor pieces for the client’s twin grand daughters. The bedrooms face the landscape through floor-to-ceiling double-glazed glass windows with metal grids for security and mirrors towards the ceiling, increasing the sense of openness, height and greenery.
