The site is located in a gated community in the outskirts of Vadodara City and close to ravines of Mahisagar river. Clients wish was for a green abode with a list of local trees to be planted, visited by the Sunbirds, a place to be with the family and friends. The weekend house is used for the evening gathering but more appreciated for the mornings with the chirping of birds. The hose had to have an outhouse the caretakers. A 1000 sq. ft. of kitchen garden is established for an organic living.
The design approach was to be with nature and use natural materials in its true form. Good quality local bricks, kota stone, reclaimed Valsadi Teakwood is used as the base material. A single plate of roof line folds and rises from 6'6" to 22'0" height creating spaces underneath. All furniture was procured form the region, designed and built by contemporary design firms. A high emphasis was put on display of Indian traditional art and craft.
Entry to the house is through a transition space / a semi covered space ‘Verandah’ with a swing – irreplaceable furniture piece for a Gujarati house. Living-dining-kitchen form the indoor socializing space with a well spanned 15’ x 15’ mezzanine filled with karaoke songs or soccer match cheering.
Bed rooms having more private spaces, one with a library and meditation zone and other with a loft space. Late evenings and early mornings are in the outdoors with quite comfortable temperatures of tropical India and the micro climate so created with the green landscape.
