A meticulous design that is intrinsically nature
centric and complemented by an alluring contemporary outlook; 'home REALM' is a
labour of love, designed and curated by STUDIO MOON – a Trivandrum based
Architecture studio – with exacting care that assures a seamless indoor-outdoor
living experience.
With the land spread across 8 cents in boundary,
whether it is the verdant teak plantation gradually revealing the structure as
we move towards it or the beautiful view towards the far away hills on one
side, nature exists alongside this family that resides in this 1848 square feet
home.
Observing the site surroundings, we decided to
maximize its impact by framing nature and its prospect from every nook and
cranny of the house. The landscape unfolds to accommodate a well, a steel
structure car porch and an array of flowers and trees respecting the client's
choice. They also required a contemporary design that equally integrated
architectural elements that respect the notion of truth to materials. The house
is Vaastu compliant with its
main door facing east and south west serving as the Kannimoola for
continuous ventilation.
The formal living room features rich views of the
garden around and an incandescent ambience. The space emulates a lively yet
elegant and soothing design language with tints of minimal elements in its
course. The ceiling in the dining area portrays the study in chiselled wooden
recess covered in veneer which drops from the ceiling. The interspersed spot
lights on the false ceiling and other cove lights provide a gentle diffused
ambience. Adding life to the design, one of the most attractive aspects stem
from the client's love for window seating spaces and it gracefully blends with
the designer's elements.
The dining space overlooks a double height space that
displays an uncluttered square for the stairs, while the huge frosted glass
window heightens the drama, as the stair space accommodates a constant trail of
natural light. The bedrooms were conceptualized negating the use of
ornamental luxurious elements and a simpler design brief was employed with
creative elements. Even with its simple material play, the bedrooms still exude
a luxuriant charm, mainly because of the spacious feel created, beautifully offset
by the surrounding verdure. The designer brought magic into the space through a
cosy reading area at the bay window.
A side facing private balcony abutting the bedroom
makes the foliage appear almost like a natural screen. The tryst with nature
continues throughout the house with more aesthetically pleasing materials and
colour palettes with a minimalistic approach of contemporary architecture.
