Located in the suburban city of Eroor in Kochi, away from the bustle and sprints of daily life, this 2400sft abode, set in a natural and rustic palette, was designed as a sanctuary to clients Arun and Hima and their two children. Being art lovers themselves, and an artist in making; they had envisaged a space where the family could unwind and unplug creatively. The pocket sized 4 cent plot shares its boundaries with similar parcels of land on either side, thus offering no views that were worth framing. The design was thus intentionally planned to look inwards by heightening the boundary walls and enclosing them. This strengthened the interior and exterior connection which acted as a smooth interface between the two. Owing to the design brief and limited ground coverage, the architects carefully planned to push the building by five metres to the rear. This gave space for a garage as well as a much-needed frontage to view and experience the building. The massing was slowly terraced so that the proportions between the height of building and width of plot would be maintained within a pleasing eye-level.

On experiencing Punarjani, one forgets these aesthetic extents are composed within a four-cent property. The calming pond, the airy landscaped courts, and the seamless plan aesthetically and mentally achieve a trance, from the everyday chaos, helping the owners slow down and enjoy the momentary calm of each day. The highlights of rustic textures and materials, crafted carefully alongside a modern configuration, within a tropical milieu, creates a work of art sustained in elegance and sophistication, making Punarjani a contented abode.
