NITYA; Providing a gentle hint of the luxury, the homeowner wants to live in, supposedly made keeping Vastu in the conscious mind, the young family of 3 generations admittedly had a very simple brief to have a highly easy-to-maintain and a very modest house accommodating 4 bedrooms.

The approach to the project was such that there was proper ventilation and the location of the plot has aided us a lot with that, as the plot was facing an 18m wide eastern road and was backed up with a 7.5m internal road. That accompanied proper cross ventilation.

The planning was started such that it firstly full filled the clients' requirements starting with the living room and kitchen on the ground floor with a parent's bedroom and a puja room all laid in a simple grid plan, the stair cabin was being a barrier in the passage of light so the steps were exposed to the living room further a store was adjusted below the stair cabin due to lack of space.

Moving towards the first floor we open up to a study room/office which was locked between the master bedroom and the kids bedroom, kids being at a very younger age were given a single bedroom but we had to accommodate 3 bedrooms for all the 3 kids, so this floor consisted of the master bedroom and a bedroom for the elder most daughter.

Further we go up to the last floor of the house having 2 bedrooms in the same orientation and a lower terrace, the stair cabin was built with a cut-out looking up to the sky, this presented a good amount of light throughout the stair well full height windows and balconies helped the house to be well lit and properly ventilated.

Talking about the façade, the plot had roads on the front as well as the back also the house was the highest in the area so we had no side untreated. The front façade was firstly divided into a grid of 3x3 further the grid was pushed and pulled to give a proper cubic experience then the structure was included in the design, which helped in making elongated masses and frames. The back side elevation was kept very simple with only a circular cut-out framing the skyline on a very beautiful way further the balconies helped in improving the back elevation.

The client asked us to treat the elevation with non-white colours, we took our colour book in hand and started matching some earthly shades of brown that went along with the exposed brick elements. The job was not easy we got some samples done on the site and got the best combination for the house.
