During the glorious journey of the firm, the well-known architect Akashdeep Gupta expanded the team considerably and needed a horizontally and vertically, physically and organizationally well-connected space. The typology of studio+residence had been organically occurring with the advent of architectural practices in India. However, It is rarely seen as asserted as designed. Nikunj is a deliberated space dreamt by the zealous and inexhaustible founders of the RKGA that connects to their studio, enabling constant connection, comfort and off-office hours working. It is an emblem as well as a milestone and an apt physical manifestation of RKGA’s growth.

Through layers of vast concrete and lush landscape, "NIKUNJ," a 4000 sq ft mansion, views the gorgeous sunset. The facade's play of mass and void is highlighted by the design and meticulous material choices. The green constructed pseudo sloping roof is supposed to complement rather than dominate the landscape. Furthermore, the pitched roof with terracotta tile cladding gives it a more residential appearance rather than a business one.

The ground floor of the west-facing plot is dedicated to the RKGA studio & office, welcoming with a large covered space shading the office entrance while a flight of stairs takes one to the residence. The residence entry is cleverly tucked in the corner, giving focus to the official access for visitors. The edgeless curved roof of the verandah eases one’s approach through the staircase to the residence entrance- A climate-compliant main access to the house. The verandah on the ground floor serves as a wide green terrace on the first floor for the living area and the master bedroom. This terrace provides an enchanting view of the tree canopy of the garden in front of the house and the saffron skies of Malva in the evenings.

The house is divided into two major bays separating common spaces and private spaces. Arrival at the house amazes you with the bold volumetric explorations of the common spaces on the left side with a sparsely opened double-brick wall on the southern side. This subconsciously keeps the visitors in the common areas only. The private spaces of the house are visually hidden on the right side of the house along with the elevator. Both of the spaces are connected internally and externally through the terrace providing multiple accesses to the master bedroom of the elderlies of the house.

The large kitchen at the end of the living and the dining area stays sacred as a Garbhagriha of a temple, yet connected to the ground floor and servant’s room for services. The kitchen also has visual access to the entrance of the house. Attached with a broad semi-open wash and store, the kitchen is arguably the most beautifully designed space of the house. This level of the house accommodates the parents’ bedroom, kitchen and ancillary spaces, living and dining area, guest bedroom, terrace and neatly designed staircase with a twenty feet-high window.
