Palanquin House, also known as Muthanna House in Vadakara, was crafted 150 years ago in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings, boasting a picturesque landscape. Over the years, the need arose for a new addition to the structure, one that would provide both structural stability and meet modern spatial requirements.

When the time came for renovation, our goal was clear: breathe new life into the structure while preserving its original charm and harmony with nature. Thus, we proposed a design that seamlessly integrated with the existing architecture, addressing various needs such as termite-proofing, concealed wiring, updated flooring, and a thoughtfully organized spatial layout.

A new face and purpose were given to front elevation of the house with an addition of a fixed opening standing on a support beam to the dining area by concealing the first floor rooms with a continuous sloped following all the way till ground floor slab.

The balcony was an addition of concrete to the structure 50 years back with the concrete slab, therefore, we retain the purpose of the space and evolve the space with slope tiled roofs, redoing column design, railing, and many more.

A porch was designed for the main entrance to enhance the elevation without deforming the concept with an evolving landscape. The living room was converted into a bedroom with equal levelling of wall concealing the open electrical wires and polished the ceiling, with a new coating to retaining the openings.

Old kitchen had an attic above which is now converted into a bedroom with a balcony and a new age modular kitchen beneath. The staircase had a steep slope and had high riser to step on, therefore the space was designed with steel staircase.
