The meticulous construction of the 1600 sq. ft. building embodies a profound journey, showcasing the unwavering dedication of the architect to sustainability and energy efficiency at every step. Collaborating with local kilns, the project began by producing mud bricks, involving labor training and experimentation with proportions and mixing techniques. The foundation, comprising stone, lime, brick dust, and sand, ensures stability, with construction strategically paused during the monsoon season for settlement and enhanced lime stabilization.

Innovative practices, such as using metal sheets and Kota Stone for waterproofing and anti-termite treatments, reflect the commitment to resilience. Despite challenges from local authorities insisting on reinforced cement concrete (RCC) in the roof slab, a "permanent slab" was ingeniously incorporated, utilizing inverted earthen pots not only as a design feature but also to optimize insulation and reduce cement usage.

Ventilators crafted from repurposed stone scraps enhance thermal comfort and contribute to the aesthetic appeal of both the interior and exterior. The terrace features a reflective and water-resistant China mosaic pattern made from carefully selected scrap materials. The layout includes pathways leading to the living area, the architect’s office, a kitchen/pantry, bedroom, worship area, and amenities, creating a holistic experience.

The interior reflects the architect's commitment to sustainability, with eco-friendly limecrete flooring replacing conventional cement concrete. Lime plaster on the walls, infused with jaggery and Methi (Fenugreek seeds), adds a unique texture. Mud and lime creatively form in-situ furniture, adding an earthy charm. Well-defined character is achieved through eclectic flooring choices such as Indian marble, granite, and terracotta tiles. Second-hand doors from a used furniture market contribute to the sustainable ethos.

Community participation is evident throughout the construction process, with a lime-making workshop bringing locals together. Talented artists from the area collaborate to produce captivating wall murals and textured art, incorporating lime as a medium to enhance the space's aesthetic appeal.

Landscaping, integral to enhancing sustainability, seamlessly integrates rammed earth techniques in the boundary wall, working harmoniously with the stone foundation and plinth. Rainwater harvesting systems meet 70% of the project's water needs, and terraces channel water into percolation pits to raise the water table. Native plants are strategically chosen to maintain ecological health and minimize maintenance costs.

Through dedication and innovative approaches, the modest plot is transformed into a sustainable oasis, offering relief from Delhi's scorching heat. A temperature difference of 8-10 degrees, observed in the post-occupancy evaluation, positions Green Oasis as a beacon of hope. Studio Shunya aspires to create a greener and more sustainable world, one building at a time, seamlessly blending luxury, functionality, and natural construction while leaving a minimal ecological footprint and imparting new skills to locals for future greener construction.
