The plot is situated at Brahmakulam near Guruvayoor in Thrissur district. Clients came enquiring about the possibility of renovating the house without extending beyond the existing floor coverage. After visiting the site they were really inspired as they came to know that the structure was more than 150 years old. There were lot of small spaces inside which were never going to fulfill the client needs. As the foundation was not capable to hold another floor, possibility of a first floor was dropped. Then they arrived at a solution of connecting some smaller spaces together to form a bigger space or room. They decided to uplift the old tile roof as it was shorter than regular contemporary heights. Entire roof was rebuilt using new roofing tiles and steel truss. Some walls were removed and few walls were added. The planning was easier as they followed traditional “Nalukettu” concept but allowing more light and ventilation inside than what client used to get before. They tried to reuse most of the furniture and wooden elements which were present in the house. They added a gazebo and porch space outside to fulfill the client requirements and add a visual ambience.

Entry to the plot is from the west through a private road. A clear distant view is achieved from the private road. A traditional Poomukham on the south west corner with extended verandahs on south and west blocks the afternoon heat. From the poomukham you can enter to a  grand living room with a beautiful nadumuttam and a swing on the other side. Along the nadumuttam openings to 3 attached bedrooms are provided which is the basic concept of nalukettu planning. An Ananthashayanam mural painting visible through the nalukettu enhances the view inside.
