The Dubai based homeowners approached us to design a ground storey home that was Tropical modern and exuded an earthy vibe with hints of the contemporary in the interiors. The 3200 SQFT family home is located in Revdanda, Maharashtra, a state known for its distinct culture, traditions, and varied topography. The owners wanted this space to feel open, airy, Minimal, and welcoming. Because they didn’t live in Alibaug, it was important that the house felt like a home away from home. It is surrounded by coconut and betel trees on all sides.

The focus of the design was to create elegant spaces and interiors through a meticulous composition of horizontal and vertical lines. Taking full advantage of the lush greenery that surrounds the house, they came up with a design plan that included an airy interior and plenty of sunlight to maintain a seamless connect with nature. The site is in irregular shape North-facing, with a 30-foot-wide village road. In keeping with the client’s desire for a strictly Vaastu-compliant house, the placement of the spaces in the house is in sync with the plan of the Vaastu Purusha
Mandala.

The one and half story Living room and master bedroom with skylight is the key light feature introduced to get more natural light inside the house.

The house premises is secured with a solid Corten steel gate. A stone paved pathway leads directly to the entrance porch of the house. The entrance to the house is through a custom-crafted solid veneer door in combination with fluted glass opens into an expansive living room which is comfortably demarcated into two sections, with a formal seating arrangement and the informal seating.

The informal living space, with a floor height of one and a half storeys diminishes to a single-storey height as it flows into the dining and kitchen area, The east wall features large sliding windows which blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor swimming pool area adding to the feeling of openness and connection with nature. This outdoor pool deck area merge into the landscape and give space for the owners to enjoy a relaxed tropical evening.

Living room skylight bring in plenty of natural light. As the sunlight changes throughout the day, the shadows make the space dynamic. The eye-catching red wall art in the formal living area strikes a contrasting balance and completes the space. The living spaces flow into the open-plan dining and kitchen. The dining table separates the kitchen from the living room.

Around the living room have been placed three bedrooms. Rustic elegant themes are seen in the interiors. The concrete ceiling is left exposed to add a sense of informality in contrast to the smooth white plastered walls. Satin finish stone flooring adds depth to the overall house design.
Some pottery and a study nook furnished with a chair and ottoman complete the look. The bathrooms have a minimalist design with stone walls. All bathroom spaces have a unique spatial experience and made with simple natural stone and fluted tiles.

Material palette of exposed concrete, white walls, wooden screens, veneer paneling, and stone flooring contribute to its earthy aesthetic. Sliding screens made of wooden strips as a privacy and second screen for bedroom windows. While they provide privacy and create beautiful shadows throughout the day, they can also be slide completely aside to relish in uninterrupted views of the surrounding area. While the ground level holds the living, dining, bedrooms and kitchen areas...the
floor above is the open terrace space from where you can enjoy the greenery on all sides. A flight of stairs has been placed outside for access to the open Terrace. The boundary wall is treated with grid of vertical grooves.

As a studio they were very conscious about the material selection throughout the house. They have tried to source all natural stones from India and use it in all different spaces including bathrooms.
