Aspirations of an out of the box Design Solution for a Commercial Establishment of a Textile Giant, Handtex Industries, situated in the “Textile City”, was the driving force behind such a bold & beautiful Architectural Expression. The Striking Identity is developed through reinterpretation of the conventional quilling pattern into an unconventional Facade Design by glorifying magnitude of fabric rolls, reinvented through perforated & curved metal sheet installation.

The project is conceived as Studio AVT’s ode to the ever so talented & hardworking Artisans & their Craftsmanship. Being an established textile company, serving millions with their handloom and textiles- it will do proper justice to represent their principles as their identity in the facade of their headquarters. The concept behind the design of the facade comes from the "hand" of Handtex. Our hands have millions of unique patterns running across, and these patterns when blended together form a very beautiful wave like pattern, intertwining with each other. These patterns can be grouped as individual "finger print" patterns, which come out in circular and elliptical shapes.

Fine embroidery details, floral patterns, decorative motifs, etc. are to be found having a mathematical relation in their curvature. All of these patterns are unique, natural and found easily if one has the eye to look out for them. These apply to our unique fingerprint patterns too. As each pattern waxes and wanes, intertwine with each other we get a combination such as the one depicted on the facade. Each pattern has its own solidarity, yet works together in a combination depicting the process of hand-weaving and textile production. Be it in the cohesion of the fibres forming the fabric or the harmony of different designs coming together as one- there is solidarity everywhere.

As soon as you enter the building, you are greeted with the reception area on the left & waiting area on the right. The reception table has nice fluted pine wood front with a counter hanged from top with the help of MS bars. The backdrop too has pine wood going upto 8’ & concrete texture above it. Subtle sustainable interiors of the office premises offer a blank canvas for ideas to be generated by the designers and creative minds working at this space. The waiting area hosts cane furniture & handmade cushions & fabrics showcasing the work that the Manufacturing unit does. On the wall, there is an embroidered World Map showcasing the export relationship of the company spread across a number of Countries, globally.

As you further move inside, there is Senior workstation area with 4 seats & a lot of storage spaces to keep samples & fabric pieces for on & off discussions with the Clients & other Co-workers. On the right is the Director’s Cabin overlooking the front lawn & a small Courtyard is planned next to it for adding a zen vibe. Moving back to the central area, the corridor leads to the cafeteria on the left overlooking the green lawn & the meeting room on the right. At the end we have placed restrooms & staircase.

As soon as you reach 1st Floor, there is a corridor dividing the built mass into two. External side hosts workstations & a Senior Cabin. And the other side accommodates another Senior Cabin, Stores & a Conference room. The bright facade very interestingly blends with the neutral interior palette. Also, as the quilling pattern is over hanged by 2’ from the glazing, it creates nice shadow pattern & also reduces heat gain in the internal areas.

The corridor leads the users to the terrace towards the end, both the Cabins overlook this terrace which helps multiply the Scale & Grandeur of the space. The fluidic facade on the front is complemented by the contemporary simplistic, straight lined Terrace Pergolas which create a Magical Experience for the user and becomes the respite space for the hard working minds.

As a whole, this Project is aimed to express rather than impress, express gratitude towards the immense talent and hard & precise work, that these Artisans posses & deliver.
