A home in Mumbai that is defined by it’s owners’ Japanese aesthetic choices, where timeless elegance meets modern comfort. Clean, neutral, calming and relaxing vibes characterized by comfortable furniture pieces, this family home in Mumbai, designed by Prayag Nandgaonkar of Griot Studio, highlights the spirit of Japanese serenity and sophistication.

A 1000 square-foot home, curates a space that evokes a sense of peace and relaxation. In the bustling world of interior design, the allure of Japanese aesthetics has captivated many homeowners seeking serenity and sophistication within their living spaces. Their client who’s an NRI, with a passion for Japanese design, tasked them with designing a tranquil retreat for his parents. Despite the time difference, their client eagerly collaborated with the design team to ensure that his visions come to life. Collaborating closely with the client, they ensured that every detail, from sofa sittings, versatile dining area, to bedroom cocoons, was designed to delight and inspire.

At the threshold of the apartment stands a safety door that they designed by using in beautiful veneer grains along with a charming black metal grill and an elongated handle which adds a touch of grace. Moving into the foyer area, an oval mirror on the louvered panel, reflecting light and adding a hint of drama to the space. The foyer space walls painted with limewash stucco paint, infusing warmth and creating a sense of comfort as soon as one enters the home.

Since the residents love social gatherings, A hallmark of the design is the meticulous balance between comfort and functionality, ensuring ample seating spaces for entertaining guests without compromising on the flow and accessibility of the living area. So they had to thoughtfully curate a living & dining space by envisioning the residents home as a hub of hospitality and warmth.

Another way the home is tied together is by opting muted colour palette inspired by nature, including soft neutrals, earthy tones, and accents of tranquil greens and blues, comfortable furniture pieces with soft curves and clean lines, prioritizing comfort and functionality. They also integrated soft, diffused lighting to create a cozy ambiance, complemented by natural light.

However, it's the stunning centrepiece that steals the show – a hand-painted Japanese wall art, a masterpiece of tradition and culture. Its intricate details and vibrant colours captivate the eye, becoming the focal point of the room and igniting your imagination.

Stepping into the Master bedroom, they designed it with a delicate balance of neutral hues and minimalist elegance, that unwinds and rejuvenates their client in ultimate tranquility. The bed, with its minimalist headboard design, serves as the focal point, but it's the subtle details that truly elevate the space – pastel green stucco paint adorning the walls, imparting a gentle warmth that envelops you as you enter. Adding to the ambiance, their design team incorporated simple grooves that subtly enhances the room's aesthetic, casting soft shadows, and hanging terracotta lights gently illuminate the space, infusing it with a natural glow, thus, creating a serene atmosphere.
