As one enters the gate with perfectly overgrown calatheas rising high above in their tropical glory, a passage, almost like a green arcade leads to the checker-ed wooden main door. The main door is massive and is one of the only elements in the home that utilises hardware from out of India, more specifically Fritz Jurgen from Netherlands. The pattern of the door creates a beautiful plaid shadow that metamorphoses from an obtuse angle to an acute angle as the sun moves across the sky. The courtyard reveals itself immediately with its enchanting plants and trees and a large Nandi that is perched just under an old sculptural frangipani.
The wooden slats of the cut-out above diffuse the sunlight and cast an ever-changing and shifting shadow across the entire length and breadth of the courtyard making it a playground for sun chasers and shadow catchers! A stark black metal staircase on the left cuts the stone wall diagonally and forms a lovely background for the brown branches and green leaves of the courtyard. The stone texture on the wall, the slatted wooden texture of the ceiling, the flat black metal texture of the staircase, the concrete finish floor texture are the perfect formula to enhance the magic that is brought in by nature.

To right of the courtyard is the living area, the open kitchen, a wine cellar and bar. Custom sofas made locally, a pair of And Black chairs, tables from Gunava and RVS, rugs from Rugberry form the central cluster. The belt light from Flos gracefully hangs above and overlaps against the charred-wood walls and fluted marble bar. Antique angel sculptures from HB studio form a vintage collage against the contemporary straight lines of the fluted marble bar. The wine cellar on the right is in monochromatic in its use of wood - only broken by reds and whites.
To the left of this setting is the dining room separated by doors similar to the main door. The cluster of furniture and light have a dynamic Yuvan Bodhi art in the background. The kitchen is a cement finish by Satinwood.
To the left of the courtyard is a guest room with its own little sit out. Warm neutrals adorn the room. The bathroom is luxurious and tropical with a rough black and white stone. Plants on either side of the shower gives it a tropical haven aesthetic. Further to the left a door leads to the entertainment room where the clients enjoy watching movies while lounging casually with their friends. A bookshelf made of stone is one of the loveliest parts of this room. It adds to the earthiness along with a small court outside. Within this space is the second bar made with pink bricks. The background has a customised art by Dhara Mehrotra. The room also opens to the pool and also has a powder room and shower. Black granite is used to have a continuity with the black bookshelf. A couple of dragon flies from the artwork also appear here to bring in a little element of surprise and joy.

In the upper level, there are three bedrooms, a study, a puja room, a jacuzzi with a glass bottom and a gym with a steam. From here one can look down at the sultry courtyard below.
The bedrooms (daughters, guest and master) are simple and minimal. In the master, the bed is in the centre of the room to be able to enjoy the small, enclosed court behind. The courtyard walls like the rest of the home’s courtyard walls have large rough stone bolsters as cladding so the green plants stand out vibrantly. This combination makes a unique background for the bed. The master washroom is noteworthy because it breaks away from the straight geometry of the home. The shower and WC pickets are separated by a bathtub. The whole bathroom is open, earthy and lush.

Back to the lower level, from the courtyard, right in front is the deck, pool, garden and the koi pond. Outdoor spaces truly complete a home like nothing else can. Even the planning is as local as possible. Nothing is sourced more than 3-4 kilometres from the site as our very strict landscape artist, Varna of VSLA, was particular to only get species that have the same climate and earth conditions as the site. Getting anything exotic or out of the defined boundary, in her mind, would be against nature itself and would impact nature negatively. So, in true meaning this home is local in all ways imaginable. The outdoor space is sultry with wispy spider lilies, grand sculptural frangipanis, magical monsteras, and many more fascination species of plants. The inside and outside are integrated with each other in a beautiful way by keeping certain parameters consistent and controlled.
