The clients, both eye surgeons, wanted to come home to a space where they could unwind, relax and get away from the stress that they are surrounded with on a daily basis. The space would echo their shared passion for movies and games, and be a place to entertain and host their extended family and friends. It’s all about finding the calm in the chaos – this was the prelude to the project.

The space was conceptualised as a series of spaces, where each family member had their own identity, but which collectively reflected their passions. The design sensibility echoed a Scandi-modern shell with contemporary inserts in the form of art and accessories - a fusion of serene calm and passion – an oasis of serenity for the family.

A bare shell to start off with, the plan evolved to 3 bedrooms, a family den and a large living-dining setup. The material palette derived from the concept of the Scandi-modern shell was a series of neutrals - light grey paint, light oak wood, a white mist-fluted marble, a grey marble floor, and a dark black veneer. As a reflection of a busy life, the entrance to the house is through a long dark corridor with an accent wall of art collectables and travel curios with threadwork panels from Sarita Handa defining the end of the corridor.

Building upon an antithesis, the dark corridor leads to into a space bathed in natural light and greenery- the living-dining space - from chaos to an oasis of calm.

Dining of An Oasis of Serenity by Studio Design Inc

A light oak wood fluted wall continues to envelop the ceiling with light oak wood panels to meet a textured white mist panel - all of which form the shell for the space. A black metal unit wraps one corner of the living space as the only wall-defining element with a black ceiling light from Blacksteel swooping over the living space. The white marble wall is offset by a stunning but simple bespoke smoked black and white hanging light from Hive Home. The furniture is carefully curated to give a lightness to the overall space and is an eclectic mix from Ek Design, Josmo Studio, Pinakin Studio, Objectry, Lap and Dado and House of Things. Plants add colour to an otherwise neutral space.

A series of black veneer sliding panels opens up from the corridor to the family den. The family den is designed to be a heavy space with deep blue leather panelled walls, offset by black stained birch wood panels. A black metal unit forms the backdrop for the space complete with a game table and dart board, along with leather and wood furniture from Gulmohar Lane, Ek Design and Studio Ochre setting the mood for the game and movie area for the family.

Master Bedroom of An Oasis of Serenity by Studio Design Inc

The master bedroom again bathed in light, has a grey patterned marble headboard with brass strips offset by a simple blue fabric headboard and a bright floral chaise from Conifur Studio. Light oak chevron patterned walls with a black metal insert bookcase complete the space. Black wave marble is used as an envelope in the master bath, layered with a dark black veneer.

Guest Bedroom of An Oasis of Serenity by Studio Design Inc

A sage green panelled wall, coupled with cane furniture from House of Things and Lap and Dado as well as leafy artwork defines the design sensibility of the guest bedroom - an airy and light space. The guest bath is a play of patterns with white chevron and shades of blue.

Kids Bedroom of An Oasis of Serenity by Studio Design Inc

Birchwood is the constant neutral in the kids’ room, with varied shades of blue forming the kids’ individual areas. A niche formed within a storage wall and blue-grey shelving gives a lightness to the space allowing for creative expression for the children. The kids' bathroom is a layering of a chevron patterned black and white tile with a sage green mosaic.

The powder bathroom allows for a play of drama - a blue wall reflected through a black metal mirror panelled wall over a vintage blue patterned floor with a freestanding black metal unit over the black freestanding basin.
