It was a dream project for owner of this project. He was expecting to have all the habitable rooms only on ground floor along with the closeness to nature, big pooja-ghar ,internal garden space, landscape at outside, sufficient parking space, separate study space, ample circulation space in and around the building with luxurious and cozy feeling as well. Also he was worrying about how to make it happen in just 2800 sq.ft. of plot area. Owner did want his mother to circulate in home without going upstair as she was having medical issues and wasn’t able to go upstairs to access all other rooms in home. He was also willing to have something extra ordinary space in new home to really have great feeling after constructing a new home on same area of plot which he was having in old house. So it was a task to utilize every inch of the space in skillful way and provide the satisfactory result at end.
The major goal of designing this bungalow was to change the mindset of people that less plot area can restrict the cozyness and lavishness of the structure and beauty. And the challenging part was macro climate of Latur city and the old mindset of people to hardly accept the innovative and creative way of architectural designs. So convincing the owner about unique ideas and making them happen was the truly amazing part of this journey.
The real beauty of building lies in the design of that structure and space. The courtyard and adjoining sit out spaces of this bungalow plays very important role in this architectural design where no corner of the bungalow faces darkness n dullness. In fact from inside and outside of the bungalow every inch of the openings provide ample sunlight to the occupants and create absolutely ‘close to nature’ effect inside every place of plot boundary. Because of the design, the occupant feels very safe and connects to the surrounding of the project along with having sufficient privacy there. The special requirement of bungalow was to have religious ambience inside the bungalow. And it is thoroughly achieved by the design.

The thought process behind this design is to provide more than the expected to the client and let him get the real satisfaction of spent money for every inch of the space. As per her opinion, the design of space significantly impacts on the life of occupants living inside any building. So every space should be designed in such a way that the user of that space could live and enjoy that space in more unique way.
It is so satisfying for me that designed structure and spaces inside it was totally surprising for the owner of this project and their thanksgiving words are actually a wealth for me as an architect.
The private zone was designed around the semi private zone where the common activities can be held in middle of the building but can be seen from private places to keep family members connected to each other through design. All the activities of individuals are carried out with no disturbance to each other. the circulation path is very wide inside and out side the bungalow where it keeps engaged the user in enjoying the beautiful spaces around him at all directions. Wooden surface, sandstone, white walls and green patches surrounded by were the major materials chosen for the structure.

The plot was having road at 3 sides and a common wall at one side. So by agreeing to keep one wall dead we decided to arrange the openings in such a way that they will not be a noticed at all by users.
Climate, Geological, Geographical and Cultural response- climate of latur is very hot and dry which often crosses 30 degree in day time. the stone cladded walls, skylighted courtyard and semi covered sit outs along with cavity wall at upper floor turned out to be heat reducer components of the building which never affected the micro climate inside the building.

As the building is having 95% of habitable spaces at ground floor as per special requirement of owner, the form was expected to have long length and short height in perspective. Where as in plan, the champher made to rectangular spaces have ultimately turned into privet sit outs which helped to have beautiful screens at elevation of the structure. So the rectangles, triangles and screens have composed the exterior and interior forms of the building which are ultimately creating all sides as façade of the bungalow.
